CORKY LAING'S MOUNTAIN and Reverend Jefferson, the music of Jefferson Airplane - Friday, Feb. 9, 2018

CORKY LAING'S MOUNTAIN -- 70TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION and Reverand Jefferson, The music of Jefferson Airplane.

Corky Laing - Canadian rock drummer, best known as a longtime member of pioneering American hard rock (and heavy metal forerunner) band MOUNTAIN. Mountain w/Laing at the drum kit, released three albums and the classic song  "Mississippi Queen" between 1970 and 1971. After the band's first breakup the following year, Laing and Mountain bandmate  Leslie West went on to form blues-rock power trio West, Bruce and Laing with former Cream bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce. West, Bruce and Laing produced two studio albums and a live release before Mountain reformed in 1974 and released two more albums, Avalanche  and the live Twin Peaks, only to break up again shortly after. Late '77, he recorded an album with John Cale (Velvet Underground), Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) and Mick Ronson (David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, etc.). Mountain would once again reconvene with Laing in 1985 upon the release of Go For Your Life, and in 1994 (Jimi Hendrix Experience Bassist) Noel Redding joined Mountain along with Leslie West and Corky Laing. Laing has continued with Mountain until their last live performance in 2010.  After a number of various projects including CORK with Spin Doctors guitarist/vocalist Eric Schenkman and Hendrix bassist Noel Redding, and various solo projects, in 2015 he formed a new project, Corky Laing Plays Mountain which now includes, (as Corky says) an All - Star lineup with Chris Shutters on guitar and vocals, and Mark Mikel on bass. Together they recreate the Mountain materialthe way it was originally recorded, along with some West, Bruce & Laing songs.Corky Laing IS Rock Royalty, so fasten your seat belts cause this ain't no soft rock!
