The Solstice Concert presented by the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild has become a local tradition, an annual musical event that's always highly anticipated by members of the Woodstock community. After a brief hiatus following Artie Traum’s untimely passing in 2008, Happy Traum has decided to continue the tradition in his memory.
Happy and Artie Traum began doing these shows more than a dozen years ago and they immediately gained an avid following. Over the years, Happy and Artie called on their musical friends to participate in the winter celebration, many of whom they’ve played with in living rooms, recording studios and concert halls for decades. These have included famed Woodstock performers along with "special guests" - nationally-known artists introduced to local audiences for the first time. Frankly, you couldn’t pay for this much world-class talent, but these professionals willingly join in this group effort for the community and in support of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild.
This year's concert will be quite a reunion. Along with several Solstice “regulars” – John Sebastian, Amy Helm, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams; we’re delighted that two alumni of the venerable Woodstock Mountains Revue will be joining us: Nashville-based singer/songwriter Pat Alger (his songs were covered by Nanci Griffith, Garth Brooks and many others) and bassist Roly Salley, whose song “Killin’ the Blues” was last heard on the hit CD by Alison Krause and Robert Palmer. In addition, singer/songwriter Eugene Ruffolo (a close friend of Artie’s) and guitar virtuoso Pete Huttlinger, will have guest spots on the show. Others will be announced.
The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild is very proud to present Happy Traum and Friends in this warm, musical way to kick off the Holiday Season.
