Jesse Winchester is a folk/rock/singer/songwriter who grew up in Memphis, TN, and later moved, in 1967, to Montreal, Canada, to avoid the Vietnam War draft. While there he developed a strong Canadian following & toured extensively.
In the 1970s and early 80s, he released 7 albums, culminating with the Top 40 hit, "Say What" in 1981. His first album was produced by Robbie Robertson of the Band, and engineered by Todd Rundgren (who produced part of his second LP).
Lauded, as one of the premier songwriters of the past forty years, his songbook, which embodies the spirit of American music, has been made famous mostly by other artists, including Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, and Elvis Costello. His newest album, Love Filling Station, is filled with songs of love lost, and love found, delivered from his distinctly Southern perspective.
In September, 2009, he taped a concert for "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with..." at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, with Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, Ron Sexsmith, and Elvis. The show aired on the Sundance Channel in the US, CTV in Canada, and Channel 4 in the UK.
