Under the headline, "ELTON JOHN REDISCOVERS HIS INSPIRATION: LEON RUSSELL" July's 2010, summer issue of the Rolling Stone - features an exclusive early look at LEON RUSSELS's new studio album, The Union. "THE UNION" produced by T Bone Burnett, is called a "brilliant, soulful new disc". The Union features songs written, in some combination, by John, Russell, and John's lifelong lyricist, Bernie Taupin. There's R&B big-band, country ballad, and the storefront-church energy coming through invoking both Russell's 70's peak and his impact on John's early hit albums such as Tumbleweed Connection and Honky Château.
"The Union" has Russel riding high again with John and Russell on dueling pianos and a band that includes legendary R&B organist Booker T. Jones, steel guitarist Robert Randolph, a 10-piece gospel chorale and, on guest vocals, Neil Young and Brian Wilson. In addition, Cameron Crowe has filmed the sessions for a documentary. "...Russell was riding high as a songwriter ("Delta Lady" "A Song for You") and a solo artist; his 1970 debut album, Leon Russell, was loaded with guest superstars Steve Winwood, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton. Russell had also been the ringmaster of Joe Cocker's 1970 live revue Mad Dogs and Englishmen..."
Wednesday, August 18th, 2010, Leon Russell will perform new tunes, and your true blue favorites at the Bearsville Theater. This new album drops October 19th, 2010, with the new disc single coming out just prior to this show! We couldn't be happier!
